![]() Kallen in a Bunny Suit was hilariously funny and something that I really enjoyed. This didn't fit what we were being shown (a remake of the original first episode) but it struck me as a possibility. Total failure would be enough to send him back to his shell. It would seem like a MAJOR character shift but I could actually see Lelouch do that because his attachment to Japan was never as much as he honestly let on. I was initially surprised that Lelouch didn't actually remember anything since my honest assumption was that, after whatever events in the cave, he had simply decided that Zero had failed and to go back to his original plan. The death of Yuffie only convinced me further that everything inside them deserved to die (weirdly: I actually mentally blamed Britainnia for Lelouch's worst mistake in the series because I hold them responsible for Geass more than CC). At the start of the season, I viewed very strongly the fact of Lelouch being justified in his war and the Britannians being fully deserving of getting their asses thoroughly kicked. 200,000+ people have been killed in a revolt that did nothing to Britainnia as a whole. Oh well, the simple fact is that it opens up with the unlikely realization that Lelouch is once more "Lelouch: Ordinary High School Student." The Black Rebellion has failed and Japan is actually worse off than it was before. It's sort of like Japan learned everything about television from watching Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, and Bettie Boop. This episode is one of those massive mind-twists that seem a common staple of anime. ![]() A non-romantic version of chivalry I guess.Ĭode Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 Episode 1 I suppose even though they don't fight honorably, by placing themselves at the mercy of nobles who can order them to their deaths arbitrarily and expect to be followed on pain of death, they do demonstrate some sort of.something. Besides a few token badguys, who are EEEEVIL, such as the officers who try to kill Lelouche at the beggining of either season, most of the evil seems to be done by deluded nobles removed from the reality of the situation ordering loyal soldiers who feel no responsibility because they're just following their masters obediently. Instead it seems to be a peculiar mix of high but not insane levels of racism, pride, militarism, and filial piety that they mistake for chivalry. They honestly don't seem as a whole or in particular individuals, for the most part, to just be genocidal racists or so arrogant they consider no other group human at least not any of those to that particular extreme. The Brittanians certainly fit the "evil aristocrat" trope well.
